Background

I grew up in a small village in Meru, where in my view the only financially empowered person in the village was a teacher because their family could afford a television set, where we used to gather in the evening to watch. It would really inconvenience us if the teacher had left the village and we could not watch television that day (pun intended).

This triggered my curiosity with finance and economics at an early age and therefore developed an interest in learning everything I could about finance management. I pursued my passion by earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and Certification in Accounting CPA(K). Despite being a finance professional, I never took personal finance seriously. I thought only Companies needed to manage finances. I mean for me I just need to work, get paid and spend my money.

I got jobs that paid me well and guess what, I never engaged in any personal finance planning. I never planned for retirement because you know, the employer pays for pension, right? I didn’t put much effort into investing because I had a job, simply put I never planned my finances I just lived a good life, travelled and enjoyed liquidity, as they say learning and practicing what we learn are two different things.

Then one day I lost my job, well I had enough money in the bank to last me a while coz I had learnt about having an emergency fund, so I was fine right? During my jobless period I learnt a lot on the importance of financial literacy on an individual level. I realized there is a lot I could have achieved earlier if I had planned my finances with intention.

This then drove my passion to educate individuals about personal finance. This is therefore a very personal calling and I am willing to go as far as I can to see a better financial future for my clients.
